Birchwood Beginnings

Hey love!

I'm not much for talking about myself but I suppose you might want to know more about me to see if our vibes are in line. :) So here it goes!

I was born and raised along the Crow Wing river, just outside of a small town in central Minnesota.  I still love going "back home" to recharge my soul by soaking up the beautiful scenery & peaceful quietness. As much as I love country life, I always knew I wanted to live in a bigger town with more opportunity, so when I was 19, I packed up and moved to Fargo to begin my career as a cosmetologist. Now, I've been here for over 19 years! I love the small town feel that Fargo maintains while growing into a trendy small city!  I'm a sucker for the cute boutiques and hip coffee shops and often spend my days off window shopping while sipping a mocha latte (Beans is my fav <3)!  My husband, myself and our fur baby, Groot, (a Great Dane) love to take weekend walks downtown, soak up sun on a cozy patio, travel, hike and go on adventures whenever we can!

I have always believed in chasing your dreams and pursuing your passion so it's no surprise that I have built a career as an entrepreneur and cosmetologist. Even when I was just a toddler, I HAD to have my hair done before leaving the house and spent countless hours enjoying my older cousins brushing and playing with my hair.  My dolls and Barbie's were always getting new hair cuts and styles from me and as I got older I started sharing my passion for all things hair and beauty with my friends and became the go-to for hair and make up techniques. That's really where my love for helping others see and embrace their unique beauty started.

Now, I've been in the industry for 20 years! In January of 2017 I opened up my first private space, Christina Holmes Salon. It was the launching pad to creating Birchwood.  As my business behind the chair grew and  my passion for serving others also grew. That's where the idea of creating a salon and boutique started. I wanted to create a space that my guests felt truly comfortable in and that offered the opportunity to support other women-owned businesses. By renting spaces to other service providers and offering unique items from other women-owned small businesses within the boutique, I am able to support and encourage so many other women who have  taken the leap of faith to pursue their passions.  It is truly perfect; a cozy, fun and relaxing atmosphere where my guests walk out feeling beautiful inside and out and have the opportunity to enjoy so many other women's talents at the same time. It's so rewarding to see their needs met with unique, refreshing looks that perfectly suit their personality and lifestyle. and know that every day we are making a difference in women's lives throughout the country. I really love what I do and am so grateful to be able to share  my passion with others.

I continue to build my skills behind the chair through continued education classes and hair shows. It's so important to stay current on the new and upcoming trends and techniques and I LOVE bringing new ideas back to my guests. In 2019 I even began the journey of becoming a L'ANZA Healing Artist/Educator which gives me the opportunity to share my passion for the industry with other stylists and gives me some pretty incredible advanced education for myself!  I pride myself in using the best products, which is why I exclusively use L'anza Healing Color and Haircare. These products are made with natural ingredients and all work to heal your hair, even the color! While color is my specialty, I LOVE all aspects of cosmetology and also offer incredible manicures & pedicures, lash lifts & tints and mini facials. Birchwood Salon and Boutique is your one stop shop for all your beauty and shopping needs!

You can find Birchwood in the new Downtown West Fargo area off of Sheyenne Street.  I can help you love your hair with the right cut, color, style and of course the right products to help you recreate the look at home and even help you shop for some fun accessories as well!
